K-5 Science

The youngest students can get hands-on with topics using inquiry and exploration.

Transform elementary science classrooms with Gizmos & Science4Us

Elementary students are natural investigators. From the playground to the lunch room, they question, uncover, explore, and discover the world around them. Evidence-based science solutions from ExploreLearning build on elementary students’ natural curiosity to develop the foundational science understanding required for later success in middle school, high school, and adulthood.

Interactive science simulations and resources for elementary learners

It’s no secret—making time for science education in kindergarten through fifth grade is difficult. Elementary teachers wear many hats, often leaving little time for science learning when the instructional focus lies heavily on literacy and math. However, fun and engaging elementary science instruction is possible with Science4Us and Gizmos.

Students can seamlessly progress from Science4Us (grades K-2) to Gizmos (grades 3-12) over their elementary development. Both tools include engaging standards-aligned content, thousands of online and offline resources, professional development, and pre-made materials to make science easy to implement, no matter your time constraints.

Grades 3-5: Engage students with Gizmos simulations and virtual labs

Gizmos virtual math and science simulations deepen students’ understanding of core science concepts in grades 3-5. With Gizmos, elementary students can model observable phenomena, take on the role of STEM professionals, and get hands-on with concepts using inquiry and exploration. Events that might typically take days, weeks, or years to observe can now be experienced in the classroom and practiced repeatedly by students without restraints on lab materials or space.

Enhance elementary science learning with inquiry-based exploration

Gizmos simulations use a learning approach validated by extensive research as a highly effective way to build conceptual understanding in math and science. Gizmos are aligned to textbooks, curricula, and state standards to support inquiry-based science learning in all classrooms. The Gizmos library of 550+ simulations includes specific simulations targeted for grade 3-5 science.

In grade 3 science, students might begin exploring concepts such as magnetism, weather, living things, and the environment. Grade 4 science introduces topics such as energy, motion, and the impact of water, ice, wind, and vegetation on land. Topics in grade 5 science often include changes in matter, mixing substances, energy in food, and more. No matter the grade level or topic, Gizmos simulations enhance and extend science learning to foster STEM success.

Elevate elementary science education with Gizmos & Science4Us

The youngest elementary students can get a head start in STEM with Science4Us. In upper elementary, grade 3-5 students can expand their science content knowledge and engage in inquiry-based learning with Gizmos.

In a McREL study, students who used Science4Us showed more significant academic gains on a posttest than non-users. As older students transition to Gizmos, they benefit from research-based simulations that have demonstrated positive impacts on student achievement and engagement for more than two decades.
